ISO/TS 16949 standard is developed by ISO Technical Committee-TC 176 for global automotive industry. It contains the QS900 standard that is developed byFORD,GM and CHRYSLER, German VDA6.1, French EAQF and Italian AVSQ standarts.
It is developed by adding special requirements of automotive industry on ISO9000 standard structure. It is based on the concept of a primary system of constant improvement and concealing mistakes.
Even though QS9000 got widely accepted lately,a new standard is already ready to take its place. Therefore QS9000 won't be revised in 2000 and will be valid till 2003.
ISO/TS 16949 is developed by International Automotive Task Force (IATF) with assistance of ISO/TC 176 representatives and specialists of automotive manufacturers and Trade Associations.
ISO 9001:2000 and ISO/TS 16949:2002 together identify the quality system requirements to design/improvement,production,montage and service of automotive sector products. In addition to this, there are some additional special requirements for customers required by automotive manufacturing companies.

IATF; is a group of international automotive manufactorers - BMW Group, DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford Motor Şirketi, General Motors Corporation, PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault ve Volkswagen - along with national trade associations - AIAG (America), VDA (Germany), SMMT (England), ANFIA (Italy) ve FIEV (France). Japanese automotive manufactorers association JAMA are also took part in development of ISO/TS 16949:2002 and this pawed the way for JAMA to join IATF in the future.
